Lion and Four Bulls
நான்கு எருதுகள் ஒன்றாக ஒரு புல்வெளியில் மேய்ந்து கொண்டிருந்தன. ஒரு சிங்கம் அவற்றைப் பிடித்துத் தின்ன வேண்டும் என்று அந்த புல்வெளியைச் சுற்றி வந்தது. அது முயற்சிக்கும் ஒவ்வொரு முறையும், எருதுகள் வட்டமாக நின்று தங்கள் கொம்புகளால் சிங்கத்தை எதிர்த்தன.
Four bulls were grazing together in a pasture. A lion prowled about that pasture to capture and eat them. But each time he tried, the bulls formed a circle and opposed him with their horns.
"இவை ஒன்றாக இருக்கும் வரை நம்மால் இவற்றை ஒன்றும் செய்யமுடியாது" என்று சிங்கம் புரிந்து கொண்டது.
"As long as the bulls are together, I will not be able to kill them" realized the lion.
ஒவ்வொரு எருதிடமும் சிங்கம் போய்த் தனித் தனியே "அங்கே ஓர் ரகசியமான இடத்தில் செழிப்பான புல் இருக் கிறது. உனக்கு மட்டும் வேண்டுமானால் காட்டிக் கொடுக்கிறேன். எல்லோரையும் அழைத்துக் கொண்டு வந்தால் உன் பங்கு குறைந்துவிடும்" என்று கூறியது.
So, the lion approached the bulls individually and said "There is a secret place where there is lush growth of grass. I will show it to you alone. If you bring everyone along, your share will be less." |

சிங்கத்தை நம்பி எருதுகள் பிரிந்தன. செழிப்பான புல்லுக்கு ஆசைப்பட்டு சிங்கம் சொன்னபடி அதனுடன் தனியே போயின. ஒவ்வொரு எருதும் தன்னந் தனியாகச் சிங்கத்தை எதிர்க்க முடியாததால், சிங்கம் அவற்றை எல்லாம் ஒவ்வொன்றாக அடித்துச் சாப்பிட்டது.
Bulls believed the lion and separated. They wanted to eat the lush grass and went alone with the lion. Alone, each bull offered too little resistance and the lion killed them all, one by one.
கூடி வாழ்ந்தால் கோடி நன்மை, பிரிந்து நின்றால் விளையும் தீமை.
