 Balu and Velu were friends.
பாலுவும் வேலுவும் நண்பர்கள்.
One fine day, they were traveling through a forest area. They sighted a bear that was coming towards them. Both of them wondered how to escape from the bear. Balu knew tree climbing, while Velu did not know it. Balu did not wait for Velu to figure out how to escape, but he went climbed up the tree.
ஒரு நாள் இருவரும் காட்டுவழியாக சென்றார்கள். அப்போது சற்று தூரத்தில் ஒரு கரடி வருவதைப் பார்த்தார்கள். கரடியிடமிருந்து எப்படித் தப்புவது என்று யோசித்தனர். பாலுவுக்கு மரம் ஏறத் தெரியும். ஆகவே அவன் வேகமாக ஓடி மரத்தில் ஏறிக் கொண்டான். வேலுவுக்கு மரம் ஏறத் தெரியாது. அவன் கரடியிடமிருந்து தப்பிக்க ஒரு தந்திரம் செய்தான்.
Velu thought of a tactic quickly and lied down still. Bear came near Velu and smelt Velu from tip to toe. Since it thought Veluஒs body was dead, it left. |

அசைவில்லாமல் கீழே படுத்துக் கொண்டான். கரடி வந்தது. தலை முதல் கால் வரை வேலுவை முகர்ந்தது. பிணம் என்று நினைத்து கரடி விட்டுவிட்டுச் சென்றது.
After bear left, Balu came down from the tree and asked Velu, ஓWhat did bear tell you?ஔ. Velu replied to Balu, ஓBear told me not to believe the friend who runs away during dangerous timesஔ.
மரத்தில் ஏறிய பாலு கீழே இறங்கி வந்தான் "வேலு! கரடி உன்னிடம் என்ன சொன்னது" என்று கேட்டான். "ஆபத்தைக் கண்டு ஓடுகிற நண்பனை நம்பாதே" என்று கரடி சொன்னது என்றான்.
A friend in need is the friend deed.
