A fox and a crane lived on the bank of a stream. The fox wanted to play a joke upon the crane. So, he invited the crane for dinner.
ஒரு நரியும் நாரையும் ஓர் ஓடைக் கரையில் வசித்தன. நாரையைக் கிண்டல் செய்ய விரும்பிய நரி, அதை விருந்துக்கு அழைத்தது.
The fox had nice soup for the dinner, but poured it in flat plates.
நரி சுவையான சூப் தயாரித்து, அதைத் தட்டில் ஊற்றியது.
So the poor crane, with its long beak could not eat the soup and starved.
பாவம் நாரை, தன்னுடைய நீண்ட அலகால் குடிக்க முடியாமல் பட்டினி கிடந்தது.
The fox joked to the crane, "I am sure you enjoyed the dinner!" "Thank you" said the crane, "but you must have dinner with me tomorrow." The fox agreed.
"நிச்சயம் விருந்தை ரசித்துச் சாப்பிட்டிருப்பாய் என்று நினைக்கிறேன்!" என்று நரி கேலி செய்தது. "மிக்க நன்றி, நாளைக்கு என்னுடன் விருந்துண்ண வேண்டும்" என்று நாரை அழைப்பு விடுத்தது. நரியும் அதற்கு ஒப்புக்கொண்டது. |

The next day, the fox went to the house of the crane. "welcome Mr. fox, the dinner is ready" said the crane. The crane had placed tasty curry in jars with long, narrow necks.
மறுநாள் நரி கொக்கின் வீட்டுக்குச் சென்றது. "வாரும் நரியாரே, விருந்து தயார்" என்று நாரை சொன்னது. குறுகிய, நீண்ட கழுத்துள்ள ஜாடியில் சுவையான கறி சமைத்து நாரை வைத்திருந்தது.
Just as the crane could not eat off the plate, the fox also could not eat off the jar, and starved. This was a case of 'Tit for Tat'.
தட்டிலிருந்ததைச் சாப்பிட முடியாத நாரையைப் போலவே நரியும் ஜாடியிலிருந்ததைச் சாப்பிட முடியாமல் பட்டினி கிடந்தது. இதைத்தான் பழிக்குப் பழி என்பார்கள். |
